Experiences in Cornwall

Throughout 2021 Skool is running creative courses: Writing with Light, Songlines, and Shouting At The Sea. These courses will encourage storytelling, whether that’s in the form of a picture, a poem, a song or even beginning that book. The first steps are the hardest. We aim to help you begin telling your story.

St Agnes is a UNESCO World Heritage site: here, the wild Atlantic dominates. On our coast path there are ruined mines, polychromatic heather and gorse, wild animals and birds, and the ever-changing landscape of the sea.

Skool sits atop a cliff on the stunning north coast of the county, in the pretty village of St Agnes. Buffeted by the winds of the Atlantic, our school nestles on the site of an old tin mine, Wheal Kitty. Guided by our team of teachers, writers, educators and film makers, we’ll help you find your voice.

The true art of photography is not just capturing a pretty view, or face, but in the communication of story. In Writing With Light we explore narrative techniques, and ways of telling stories through image, and ultimately how to capture the human experience of the world. Through experimentation you will learn to see light differently and use it to convey meaning and emotion.

“Language is a Landmark”

Songlines is an exploration of the land, and a discovery of language. We will provide you with writerly techniques that will drive your own creative writing, and encourage you to take risks with words, and begin articulating your journey as you navigate the coast paths surrounding St Agnes.

“Only connect…live in fragments no longer. “

Have you promised yourself you’ll write that book this year, but you secretly doubt it? Is it the same promise you made yourself last year and the year before? Perhaps you’re waiting for that eureka moment, the inspiration that will set you on your path?
